RSVP

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

So far this year, I know of three weddings that I shall be going to. As such I am expecting at least three invitations to be popping themselves through my front door at various points in the next few months or so. I’m sure that all of these invites will be beautifully hand written, and printed on high quality paper as you would expect, not particularly ‘Gadgety‘ in any way.

Now I’m sure that you have seen various videos on the internet of couples wanting to make their ‘Special Day’ that little bit more unique, with some of the lengths they go bordering on the tasteless. Yep, the video of the couple having their first dance to “Baby Got Back” I’m looking at you! I can’t help but think that a lot of these couples will look back at their wedding DVD with more than a tinge of embarrassment. Somewhat like how I would imagine that octogenarian looks at that ill advised tattoo they had emblazoned somewhere particularly prominent about their person.

The video below however is, in my humble opinion, a work of genius. Apparently a video invitation sent out by the couple featured to their wedding guests and put together in the style of a movie trailer this stamps originality all over their special day, whilst being far enough removed so that their wedding day can be traditional, and minus any particularly gaudy embellishments so they will be able to look back on their DVD in the future without fear of any particularly cringe-worthy moments popping up. I mean, all the guests will be commenting on the awesomeness of your wedding invites, but by the time the actual wedding comes around still be able to honestly say how beautiful a day it was as the couple have needed to cheapen it at all.

Easter promo

Friday, March 26th, 2010

I hope your Friday is going well.

Well I’m quite excited today as we’ve just received a delivery from the warehouse with some of our new items. Although this is a regular occurrence the reason I’m particularly excited this time is that I’ve been tasked with testing out a couple of the items. The Cakewich Cake Mould and M-Cups Russian Doll Style Dry Measuring Cups. I love to bake so I’m always up for testing out any new kitchen products, watch out for more details next week.

Also today we’ve launched our Easter Promotion. Free standard delivery on all order over £50. This promo will only be running until Midnight on Monday 5th April so make sure you don’t miss out.

First Rubick’s Cube, Then The World…?

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Now I don’t know about you, but I’ve never had the patience to sit down and solve a Rubick’s Cube puzzle. I got given one by my sister for a birthday when I was quite young, and after a few sessions of sitting there aimlessly twisting and turning its various coloured squares I was probably no nearer to completing it than when I had started. This being the case I did what any self respecting individual would do, I took the coloured stickers off of the squares, and restuck them so that the puzzle was completed.

So how bad do I feel when I came across this video of a robot completing a cube in just 20 seconds! Ok, so it takes another 10 seconds or so to analyse the faces of the cube and plot where each of the coloured squares is located. But still, it’s almost enough to make me go home, dig that cube out of my cupboards and give it another, proper go.

Almost….

Feels like spring

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Well the sun is shining here again today at Gadgets towers and finally its starting to feel like spring has sprung. I’m not the only one to think this having had a look at what our customer have been buying this week. Maybe its all the talk of a great summer that’s got everyone snapping up those garden and bbq gadgets.

So on the theme of garden/outdoor gadgets I thought I’d share with you my top three favourite products along with the top three items selling well this week. So firstly my three are:

Sun Jar Solar Lamp

sun jars

This is a strong seller all year round, it comes in 3 colours styles, Sun, Moon and Sunset. Simply leave the jar in direct sunlight and the jar magically stores the light ready to release it again automatically turning on when it gets dark. Perfect for summer evening entertaining.

Flashing Cocktail Glass

flashing cocktail glass

This does exactly as its says, it’s a cocktail glass that phases through seven different colours or you can choose to have it on just one colour. Adds a bit of glamour to any event.

Frosty Beer Tankard

frosty ice tankard

Pop one of these tankards into the freezer for a couple of hours and hey presto a frosty tankard to keep you beer colder for longer. Also top rated by our customers.

And here’s what are customers are buying:

BBQ Branding Iron

bbq branding iron

This is one of our new products for this summer. It comes complete with 55 letters and spaces so you can pretty much spell out anything.

Egglings

egglings

The precious little Eggling looks and feels like an extra large egg, but crack its top and discover a garden ready for sowing.

AK47 Water pistol

AK47 automatic water pistol

This product only arrived last week and it’s sure to be a big hit this summer. I know Dirk already has his eye on it. It’s an automatic water pistol modelled on the AK47. Its trigger action makes shooting fast and furious, firing 4 “bullets” of water every second!

So there you have it, fingers crossed for that blistering hot summer.

Portable 3D Gaming Set To Arrive In 2011…?

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

With the ever increasing pace of 3D media stampeding into our homes, it’s not so much the glass of water vibrating as the distant T-Rex approaches ala Jurassic Park, but more Godzilla in the midst of downtown Tokyo getting ready to trample everything in it’s path!

3D films are currently very very successful. Avatar has thrust 3D film into the consciousness of the masses single handed, and the assault continues with Alice In Wonderland doing well, and upcoming releases such as Clash Of The Titans, and How To Train Your Dragon (trailer below) only reinforcing the initial impact.

Sam Worthington, Jake Sully in Avatar, has confirmed he has signed up for both a second and third film in the series, which will surely be in 3D after the success the original experienced.

Unfortunately it’s not all good news as I have also heard worrying rumours that James Cameron is expecting to resurrect the over bloated Titanic and plaster it with as much 3D foundation as possible to try and make it look appealing under dimmed cinema lights in the absence of any sort of personality. I’m not a fan of Titanic, in case it wasn’t entirely obvious, and would much rather see him give the treatment to Aliens. Seeing Ripley taking on the Alien Queen at the end in 3D..? Surely that would be all kinds of awesome!

But back to my point, 3D films are grossing well in cinemas, Sky are getting ready to launch their 3D HDTV service, and where TV goes, gaming soon follows, with the X-Box and PS3 already embracing HD gaming, and reportedly the Wii joining them in the not too distant future. Having lagged a little as far as home gaming is concerned Nintendo have released a statement today (as reported here) advising that at E3 they will unveil the next evolution of handheld gaming, the 3DS. Yes, with the next generation of handheld gaming from Nintendo you can, in their own words “enjoy 3D effects without the need for any special glasses.”

The only real information available at the moment is that Nintendo 3DS is a temporary name, the device will be backwards compatible with all currently available DS games, and a release date of prior to March 2011 is being targeted for the device being available in Japan. More information will be forthcoming at E3 later in the year.

In the past I have doubted Nintendo. I doubted that the progression to 3D games, as they were in 1998, was a good step, but after 15 minutes of quality time spent with The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time I was convinced enough to go out and purchase my own Nintendo 64. When I first heard about the Wii, again my doubts surfaced, would it work well enough, would it actually be fun, or frustrating? Once again, after a short time spent with the Wii my doubts were beaten into submission. So going forwards, whist I again find myself querying how effective this will be, I have to be of the opinion that if anyone can do it, Nintendo can!

New week, new cart promo

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Hope you all had a good weekend.

I went to Wales to visit the family, I left work early on Friday to try and beat the traffic however I wasn’t very successful. Four and a half hour later and £5.50 lighter I finally made it! If you’re wondering about the £5.50, that’s what they charge you to enter Wales via the Severn Bridge!

Anyway as I left early I forgot to tell you about the new cart promo. This week it’s the Telly Terminate, this handy little gadgets turns off pretty much any TV at the touch of a button. It’s small enough to fit on your keying and comes complete with a built in LED torch for disguise.

tele-terminate

Normal price is £12.95 however if you buy anything this week it’s yours for a mere £7.50.

Have a good week :)

Feel The Steel!

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Well here we are, into the home straight before the weekend! I’m excited because tomorrow evening I’m off to Brixton to see Steel Panther in what will be my first gig of the year, and the first step upon my path towards my summer of festivals. For anyone who doesn’t know Wikipedia describe them on their page for the band “Steel Panther is a parody heavy metal band“. If you like 80′s “Hair Metal” like Poison, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, and similar bands I would certainly recommend giving them a listen as despite being largely a parody band, they are musically very very good! (if a bit rude!)

Less than 85 days away from my first Festival of the season now and I’m starting to get excited, I’m also glad that the weather appears to have turned for the better and we are enjoying some much more Spring-like temperatures! Of course we’re still super busy here at Gadgets Towers with new products coming in thick and fast, so I hope you’re all keeping an eye on our What’s New pages! I must say that after finishing the page off yesterday I’m wanting Summer to arrive so I can test out our new AK-47 Water Pistol, as I think this is certainly something you want on your side in a water fight!

I’ll shortly be off home to prance about my living room to my assorted collection of 80′s Glam Rock classics to really get me in the mood for the gig tomorrow night! Here’s hoping your evening will be just as enjoyable.

Not as expected

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

I know I said I’d be with you bright and early yesterday but quite frankly I’d forgotten what my inbox gets like when I’ve been out of the office. So I thought I’d leave you in Dirks capable hands instead.

I’d like to say that I’m back all nice and refreshed but if I said that I’d be lying, what was supposed to be a chilled out weekend ended up being quite hectic. Saturday I was in the city, a bit of sightseeing along with a show, dinner and a few drinks. It was the second time I’ve seen the Lion King and it was even more fantastic than I remembered and so were the half price martinis, well what I remember of them!

Sunday and the sun was finally shining, it would have been a shame to waste the day curled up on the sofa (which was what I needed) so I thought I’d take the opportunity to finally test out the muvi camcorder. I’ve been saying I’d do it for months but the weather hasn’t been that great recently (I’m a fair weather outdoors person). So I dusted down the bike loaded it up in the van and off to Aston Hill Bike Park we went.

Finally get there and I realised I had two problems, firstly most of the park had been closed for a downhill competition and secondly I noticed I forgotten the camcorder. Unfortunately the only bit we were allowed on was the XC trail however a lot of the downhill parts on this trail had been taped off for the comp leaving mostly uphill, grr…….I DON’T do uphill!!

So had I had the camcorder all you would have seen was me pushing the bike very slowly up the hills. About an hour in to my relief there was a short cut back to the beginning, I had no hesitation in taking it.  Half hour later I finally made it back to the finish line with full on jelly legs. Definitely need to get fitter before I try that again.

XC Short cut

It may have been hectic and not what I had hoped for but it was still a pretty awesome weekend!

Mountain (Gorilla) Bike

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Now for some reason one of the Blogs that I peruse on a regular basis (Wired Gadget Lab) seems to have something of an occasional pre-occupation with bikes. So when I scrolled through the recent posts this morning I wasn’t surprised to see a post about a bicycle, until of course I saw the image below. (courtesy of Photography Bay)

The more eagle eyed amongst you may notice, just as I did that rather than a rigid frame made from the usual bicycle friendly materials, this one is made in the same manner as the feet of one of our great Gorilla Pods, and indeed upon reading the article, it became apparent that this was part of a recent Joby (being the good folks who make the Gorilla Pod) display.

Although Gorilla Pods are certainly sturdy enough to support and fix any attached camera in place I would not imagine that this was intended in any way to be an actual functional bicycle, at least not without a lot of extra padding and somewhere soft to land one would assume! This is certainly one of the more interesting display items I have seen, and would certainly have me giving their stand more than a second glance, and I guess at the end of the day that is the whole point really!

Running out of steam

Friday, March 12th, 2010

OK, so Friday’s here again.

I’ve been sat here for the last 20 minutes desperately trying to decide what to write about but struggling miserably. I just can’t seem to muster up anything, as usual I have lots I could tell you about but I’m finding it hard to put into words. I asked Dirk for help, he suggested I tell you about going to see Alice In Wonderland in 3D, he mentioned I could link it into the Personalised Classic Book range that we do which includes Alice in Wonderland. However I’m just not feeling that today, might leave that one for next week. Or even Dirk as he’s also seen it.

Thinking about it I think this photo sums me up today!

Luckily I’ve got a nice long weekend as I’m off on Monday :-) I’m going into the city on Saturday to watch the Lion King then the rest of the weekend I’m going chill out and do nothing but recharge my batteries, can’t wait!

Have a great weekend and I’ll see you bright and early on Tuesday!
