Whew! We Made It!

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Whew! Well, I hope you’ve ordered everything from Gadgets.co.uk that you wanted for Christmas, because as of 1pm today we can no longer guarantee any orders will be received in time for the big day! As I sit here and look out of the window it is indeed suitably festive outside, with the snow getting me even more into the Christmas spirit. Unfortunately I don’t think Mandy would feel the same way about the snow, after it took her about 6 hours to get home last night!

As well as the snow causing travel chaos for many yesterday evening yesterday was of course the Winter Solstice, and as such the shortest day of the year. As usual loads of people turned out to Stone Henge to observe the Pagan festivities. Of course I probably need not mention that there were great festivities in my household on Sunday evening as Rage Against The Machine were announced as the Christmas Number One for 2009. On the other side of the coin there were many disappointed fans of the X-Factor winner, but I don’t doubt that he’ll be Number 1 next week, and have success in the years and months ahead.

With our final ordering day just about over now, we can start to wind down now here at Gadgets Towers and really gear up to enjoying our own Christmas. The Christmas songs can be turned up, the mince pies and Christmas cake brought out, and the festive spirit can really take hold. I’ll leave you with another of my favourite Christmas songs for today. I’m not normally a big fan of Mariah Carey, but this is definitely one of my Christmas favourites!

Revolting! Revolting! The Peasants Are Revolting!

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Ok, so it’s not so much the peasants in this case but the X-Factor loathing public, myself included, who are taking up arms, or in this case downloads, and campaigning against yet another dull, and boring Christmas number one. Another Christmas Number one that is a predictably manufactured re-recording, no, I wouldn’t even go so far as to say “re-imagining”, of a single that likely already has likely enjoyed some success. Yes, when it comes to RATM (Rage Against The Machine) Vs The X-Factor winner, whose name neither do I know or want to; as I feel most of the general populace will likely feel in a few months, I am firmly in the RATM camp.

As Simon Cowell suggests in various condemnations of the group wanting to send out a message by getting Rage’s 1993 single to number one for the festive week, there have been some terrible Christmas number ones. The prime example of which is Mr. Blobby. On the other hand, and this is how I feel, isn’t the Christmas number one meant to be fun? Isn’t the Christmas number one spot meant to mean something rather than being arbitrarily decided by a TV programme of the laziest kind?

I will own up to buying Mr. Blobby upon its release, but will attempt to defend myself by saying I was young and knew no better. More recently I have sided with the Teletubbies in my college days and The Darkness a few years ago. I was gutted when they missed out to Mad World from the Donnie Darko soundtrack. As much as I would like to post the video below for RATM, there are some rather rude lyrics in there, so I will make do with Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End) by The Darkness instead.

Still Got Some Shopping To Do?

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Just over two weeks to go, and I’m sure those of you who are about to answer “No” are sick of the question but it has to be asked so; have you finished your Christmas shopping yet? Obviously those in the “Yes” camp are relieved that ordeal is over with for another year, and can just look forward to the festivities ahead. Those in the “No” camp on the other hand still have at least some of the painstaking plodding ahead of them however, and will be dreading Christmas getting closer as with each passing day they have less time to do their shopping, and it’s likely the shops will be busier!

Of course good folks like ourselves here at Gadgets Towers are trying to make your lives that little bit easier by making sure we have a huge range of gift ideas online that you can order from the comfort of your own home, and have delivered to your door.

I myself am feeling somewhat smug in that, for the first time ever, I have all my Christmas shopping done already, and in fact I have done since the end of November! Of course if you haven’t finished yours yet there is still plenty of time, and we have plenty of stock of all our most popular Gadgets, so get those mice clicking! If you do decide to brave the shops just think, it may be busy, but it could always be worse!

Only 17 Days Till Christmas Already!?

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

Well, pretty much a third of the way through December already as it seems to fly by, I’m really not too sure where this month has gone! The orders are pouring in here at Gadgets Towers, and we’re obviously very busy here. In fact I’d go so far as to say that we are very nearly as busy as a certain jolly gentleman in a red suit and his helpers are sure to be at this time of year!

As it’s December although I haven’t yet seen the Coca Cola advert, (you know, the one with festively lit lorries and the “Holidays are coming” music) I have seen the Toys ‘R Us advert, and as such am getting into Christmas mode, which also involves watching my selection of Christmas DVDs. I’ve had discussions with both the folks here at Gadgets Towers, and my friends as to what the best Christmas movie is. Suggestions have included Elf, Scrooged, It’s A Wonderful Life, and A Muppets Christmas Carol.

For me however there is one film that stands head and shoulders above the rest. The main protagonist, or at least the actor who portrays him, has taken on and defeated aliens with advanced weaponry, robots from the future, clones of himself, international terrorists, even Satan himself, but there is no doubt that finding the sold out must have Christmas toy for his son on Christmas Eve is his most challenging task to date! Yes, I am talking about “Jingle All The Way”, the much maligned Arnold Schwarzenegger Christmas film. Arnie and his various characters are a goldmine of classic quotes, and although this film is a little light on the sound bites I still think it’s a great film. I also feel it gets across a message that, in our modern world, is possibly more valid than some of the older, more classic Christmas films. I’ve included a montage a scenes below that I managed to find below, hopefully if you aren’t quite in the Christmas spirit already this will help!

Frantic Friday

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Wow, what a week!

We started the week with mega Monday and finished with frantic Friday, well to be honest it’s been frantic all week. Christmas appears to be well under way with everyone doing their shopping, I even managed a bit of shopping myself in between phone calls.  Well there is only 2 weeks and 6 days to go.

As always this week we’ve had more great new products arrive, a couple of my favourites are the Mathmos Fireflow and Large Cupcake Tin. I’m sure you already know by now you can find details of all our new products in the new products section on the website. I’ll be testing them out next week so I’ll report back.

Friday is cart promo day so its just been changed, this week it’s the USB Hub Man. Buy anything and you can get this great little chap for only £5.95, that’s a saving of £4!

Well that’s it from me this week, I’m now heading off to Herefordshire for my brother’s wedding. Fingers crossed it doesn’t rain. Have a good one whatever you’re up to.
